Following Jesus in North Africa often comes at an extraordinary cost. In many communities, Islam is not only a religion but a deeply woven part of family identity, community belonging, and cultural heritage. Because of this, anyone who chooses to follow Christ and turn away from Islam is often seen as betraying their family and dishonoring their ancestry. As a result, new believers may face intense pressure and rejection. Many are excommunicated from their homes, cut off from financial support, or completely disowned by their families. In some areas, believers may be beaten, threatened, or even killed by relatives who feel obligated to “restore honor” to the family. Yet despite these dangers, men and women continue to follow Jesus with remarkable courage, trusting His worth above all earthly security.
“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” -Matthew 16:24-25
This summer, our team will be stepping into a large, fast-paced, and business-driven city where more than 99.9% of the population is Muslim and where countless people have never once heard the name of Jesus. Throughout the summer, we will partner closely with a long-term team already serving in the city. Together, we will go out into strategic areas to share the gospel boldly and compassionately, build meaningful relationships, and open doors for ongoing ministry. In addition to outreach, our team will worship with local believers, encourage them, and strengthen them in their faith as they continue to shine the light of Christ in a spiritually difficult place. Our desire is simple: to make Jesus known where He is not yet known and to join God in what He is already doing among the people of this city.
Abiding in Jesus (John 15)
Pray that our team would remain deeply connected to Jesus every single day. Ask that we would depend on Him for strength, wisdom, boldness, and love. And that everything we do would flow out of abiding in Him, the true Vine.
Softened and Prepared Hearts (Ezekiel 36:26)
Pray that God would go before us and prepare the hearts of the people we will meet. Ask Him to remove hearts of stone and give hearts of flesh. To prepare hearts that are open, soft, and ready to hear the hope of the gospel.
God’s Glory in North Africa (Habakkuk 2:14)
Pray that through every conversation, act of love, and moment of faithful witness, the glory of God would spread in this unreached region. Ask that the name of Jesus would be lifted high and that His fame would fill this place.
